HAB entered the Indian formulations market in 1990. Since then have built a portfolio running across cardiovascular, diabetology, central nervous system, anti-infectives, gastroenterology, respiratory, dermatology, women’s health, pain management and nutrition. Several of these brands have been in the market for decades and are still growing, which is the only measure of a brand that matters.
What holds the portfolio together is not a therapy area. It is a way of working. We make what we sell, in our own plants, so quality and supply are ours to answer for.
Distribution runs from our own warehouses through 100+ distributors to 1,000+ stockists, covering metros, tier two and tier three towns, and the rural markets that make up the majority of the country’s patient population. Storage and transport follow Good Storage and Good Distribution Practices throughout, with temperature-controlled warehousing, where every required, and tracked vehicles.
We launch every year, and we launch to fill gaps rather than to add line extensions. Going forward these launches will be fed by our own Research & Development Centre at Vasai, shortening the distance between an idea and a product on the chemist’s shelf.
Our next step in the domestic market is a dedicated specialty division in central nervous system and respiratory therapy, built around differentiated products and scientific, doctor-led promotion. A new field force is being recruited and trained now. It will not carry a general bag. It will carry a focused CNS and respiratory portfolio into neurology, psychiatry, pulmonology and chest practice, supported by clinical literature and medical education.
Three principles shape the division. Fewer products, better understood. Specialists called on by people who can hold a scientific discussion. Products that are genuinely differentiated, many of them developed in-house.
